Waimea Bay
As the Eddie Aikau swell peaked at Waimea Bay in January 2023, a 45 foot wave broke across the entire bay, closing out the lineup in one continuous wall of water. Standing on the beach, I could feel the ground rumble beneath my feet as the sound of each impact echoed through the bay and off the surrounding hills like an auditorium. Offshore spray hung in the air under clear blue skies while nearly 30,000 people lined the shoreline, gathered in silence and awe, watching the ocean at its most powerful. A moment that captured the true scale and force of the North Shore.
